2019 Weekend Trip

Another great trip on the lake! West Canyon and Face Canyon were particularly fun this trip with the lake at a water level of about 3620 feet.

2014 Pre Trip

I have created a potential plan for the 2014 trip. This tour includes a white line that shows the path of the houseboat, a tent icon that depicts our camp sites, camera icons for sites of interest, and hiking icons for popular hikes.

2013 Trip

We are back and the trip was great! The water was at the lowest level I have ever seen. However, the low water level allowed for us to stay at one of the best spots we have ever had. Fifty Mile Canyon was the location and became popular fast. We managed to take the spot from a previous group that was leaving the day after we arrived in the Escalante. The sand bar that we beached on crossed the canyon and created a private water feature through the rest of the canyon.

This is also our first trip in September. The month was perfect for low traffic and comfortable temperatures. I enjoyed the upper 80's and low 90's compared to the high 90's and low 100's of the previous year. Not only were the temperatures great, but the weather was clear for a full week while we were there. And the boat traffic was so low, that at times, you did not see other boats in the main channel.

We had several great hikes in West Canyon, Davis Gulch, Fifty Mile Canyon, and Clear Creek. West Canyon was probably most interesting since our group ran into beavers. Fifty Mile canyon was only accessible by our group, since it was blocked off behind the sand bar, and made for a unique experience. Davis Gulch was great for pictures with its hole in the canyon wall and waterfall at the end of the hike. Clear Creek was the shortest hike but required ropes to scale waterfalls/cliffs.

Overall, this was probably one of the best experiences I have had on Lake Powell. It's going to be hard to beat this trip in the future.

Upcoming 2013 Trip

It's once again time for Lake Powell! It has been hard to set aside time for this trip. But I have decided that it is needed. Work life has been non-stop and it is time for a break.

This trip will be very different. The lake level is the lowest it has been in years. The houseboat is located at Antelope point marina. And we are going to try for a 8-10 day trip. Personally, I cannot wait and the extra time on the lake should allow for some great exploration.

I will be posting lake levels, pictures, and more when I return.

2011 Trip

It was another great Lake Powell trip! Once again, after many years, we reached the Escalante and saw some of the greatest scenery. Ashley and I had a fun trip and will always remember this trip to Lake Powell.

Thank you Bill and Gale for having myself and Ashley on this great trip!

Upcoming 2011 Trip

It's been two years and it is time for another great trip to Lake Powell! This is going to be a very special trip, since I will be bringing my girlfriend Ashley.

I have been watching the water levels very closely and it looks to be a good trip. The water is lower than I would like, but high enough for the Castle Rock Cutoff. The Castle Rock Cutoff should allow for faster travel up the lake from Wahweap Marina but we may only be making it as far as Navajo Canyon, due to gas prices and convenience of travel to and from the marina.

I hope to be able to get some great hiking in and some pictures of new areas that I have not been to. I will be posting and updating this site as soon as I have more information.

An image of the Castle Rock Cutoff. The water is very low in this picture.

2009 Trip

I recently returned from Lake Powell 2009! It was an amazing trip that did not suffer nearly as many problems as the 2007 trip. We had to stay the first two nights in the marina, but it was still a great time. We were able to travel up to Wetherill Canyon on day 3 and from there I was able to visit Mountain Sheep Canyon and Rainbow Bridge. Day 5 we left Wetherill Canyon and traveled down to West Canyon. This trip to West Canyon gave me one of the best hiking experiences I have ever had. We went on a 4+ hour hike and saw some of the most interesting canyons ever. I had to swim, climb, and walk to get through this great canyon. Check out the pictures in the pictures section of the site. The trip ended with us staying night 6 at the marina.
